So there I was, just a little kid hanging out at Auntie Mina's place for the day.
I'm sitting there with some paper and whatever art supplies she'd scrounged up for me, when suddenly...
I See It.
That gorgeous orange and yellow shag carpet from the 1970s.
And I'm telling you, it looked EXACTLY like wheat fields! Plus it had this incredible texture that would make my little drawing absolutely pop off the page (literally).
My six-year-old brain went into overdrive:
"This is it! This is what my masterpiece needs!"
But here's where it gets interesting...
I Knew It Was Wrong.
Oh man, did I know it was wrong. But that carpet was calling to me like a siren song. 🎶
So I'm sitting there, heart pounding, waiting for the perfect moment to make my move. The anticipation was killing me!
Finally, I sneak behind the couch with some scissors (don't ask me where I found them), and I start cutting these perfect little pieces of that beautiful shag.
Snip. Snip. Snip.
Then I glue them onto my artwork and...
Holy Crap!
It was AMAZING! Better than I'd even imagined!
I was so proud I had to show Auntie Mina immediately.
Big mistake.
Her face went from surprised to absolutely furious in about 0.2 seconds.
"WHERE did you get this material?" she demanded, pointing at my glued-on carpet pieces.
"Um...behind the couch?" I squeaked.
"YOU KNOW YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO CUT THE CARPET!"
When Mom came to pick me up, Auntie Mina ratted me out faster than you could say "interior decorating disaster."
Mom shook her head and made me apologize (which I did), and I promised never to do it again.
But Here's The Kicker...
About forty years later, when I started growing cannabis, guess what I did?
Yep! Started incorporating real pot leaves into my artwork!
Sorry Auntie Mina, but you know me...
"I Just Had To Do It!"
Because sometimes, when you see that perfect element that'll make your art absolutely sing, you've got to take the risk.
Even if it means becoming a six-year-old carpet vandal in the process!
