Dad

My Dad doesn't remember me anymore... and it hurts. I just came back from a visit and very few people asked how I felt about my feelings about this. But my dad who is now eighty one this month, had a good talk about how plants grow, which is where I get my green thumb. We talked about his neighbors too. He remembers my Mom, which is pretty cool. I brought up some old memories of his life in Hawaii, the Philippines, and the Kwajalein Island when he worked overseas in the sixties. His eyes opened bright as he wondered how I knew of the things that he'd almost forgotten. I love my dad so much... And sometimes I wish that I would have spent more time with him over the past couple of years while he still remembered me. As I look forward, I wonder if in thirty plus years I'll be like him? Faded memories with child like experiences of the present? In so many ways, he's in a really good place. Because every moment is brand new and every experience is incredibly joyous. Witness...

Honor Among Thieves

Perception can be a form of deception, in ways that provides the illusion of trust among those who may be unworthy of our trust. I suppose that when trust is broken, the road back to repair can be a difficult ordeal. Which is why stealing from loved one's becomes a boundary that some refrain from crossing. And from this standpoint when a loved one crosses that threshold, it makes it very hard to see the reasons behind the action. But is the problem that one has loved someone who is not trustworthy? Personally I don't think so, because in my experience there are certain truths that are apparent in things like forgiveness . Because forgiving ourselves and others has a very powerful and magical effect on us. One of which is harnessing the ability to let go of pain, grief, sorrow, fear and confusion . Another reason why honor itself can be abstract when perceived from the mindset of perfection, especially when we all know that being human is all but being perfect. So when thieves...

Merry Christmas

In this time of reflection, I'm so happy to still have both of my parents to enjoy. I realize that some do not and my heart goes out to you. Some of us may have lost a spouse and other family members along the way to this point of our lives. But what matters most is that we're still here. For myself, at times I don't know why that is - but I'm here regardless. I remember the good times of decorating the tree, putting up the lights and reveling in the company of loved ones. So today, I let this be a time where I can be happy for where I am today, appreciate my past and look forward to my future experiences. and I send out this goodwill to all of you.
